Algoritme Media Sosial yg tidak bebas nilai: Polarisasi & Politisasi Teknologi

Berawal dari flyer yg disebarkan Kaprodi Pasca Ilkom UI semalam di grup WA Pengumuman S3,

saya tertarik mengikuti kuliah umum yang dibawakan Prof. Merlyna Lim (Canada Research Chair in Digital Media & Global Network Society, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada) terkait topik “Algoritme & Politik Media Sosial.”

Thank you Prof. Merlyna Lim for your thoughtful sharing. I want to ask a question regarding the nature of the Algorithm which is binary. Can we, as scholars, do something about it, such as counter-act or other things? Is the social networks of hope, as you mention, be realizable within the algorithmic social media environment?

“I believe that researchers should have a moral compass considering the common code that binds us & our research to be objective & scientific, I am not biased on regards with data, but I am morally biased, … it is our responsibility as scholars to be in, like a public engagement with the socio-political issue at hand, therefore we may avoid perpetuating the reductionist side of knowledge to justify any views that are perpetuating the polarization. It is our responsibility to make social networks of hope become possible such as collaborating with policymakers, academist counteracts/counter-movement. academics working with activists and policymakers, alone we can’t do anything. we can influence the discourse to be more democratic, we can demand corporations to be more transparent, or to be a watchdoc in terms of social media misuse.”

Terimakasih Prof. Merlyna Lim.

Terimakasih juga kepada Panitia Penyelenggara dari Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Padjajaran, khususnya kepada Moderator Dr. Kunto Wibowo.

salam sehat & produktif!
